Library Update Issue 1

WHERE WILL THE LIBRARY BE BUILT?

Some students have mentioned that the current library is “at the edge of campus.” The location of the new building, near the education centre, is more central to other academic buildings. This will make it easier for students to use the library and its services more regularly.

It will also be easier to access: there will not be the need to navigate stairs at either entrance—a positive feature both for students and for delivery personnel, bringing interlibrary loan items to campus. A staircase and an elevator will connect the upper and lower floors.

Building in a new location allows for there to be no interruption of library services while construction happens.

HOW IS FUNDRAISING PROGRESSING?

* This includes a $1 million gift from the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada.

Recent developments, including a $1 million matching gift, have provided solid support for the new library. We rejoice that we have $3.4 million on hand and that the university has advanced $1.3 million from their reserves.

The next goal is to raise $2 million to complete the building, replace the reserves, purchase technology and furnishings, and complete landscaping and paving.

WHEN WILL CONSTRUCTION BEGIN?

Before construction can begin, a gas line that runs under the site where the library will be built needs to be repositioned. ATCO has now scheduled this move, so we are confident that dedication, groundbreaking, and the start of construction are just a step away. The shovels are ready!
Virtual groundbreaking will be Sunday May 2 at 2:00 p.m. MDT.
