Awards Night: Amounts & Criteria
General Eligibility Requirements
All awards, unless otherwise stated, have the following minimum criteria:
Must be a current full-time student with cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
Must have completed a minimum of 9 credits at Burman University during the current and immediately preceding fall semester.
Students returning from a break in full time studies may also be eligible if they have a minimum of 9 Burman credits.
Preference is given to those who demonstrate accomplishment in:
Academic Achievement - Determined through cumulative GPA unless otherwise stated.
Community Service - Determined through Student Finance Committee review of applications using a rubric, removal of scoring outliers, and standardization.
Campus Involvement - Determined through Student Finance Committee review of applications using a rubric, removal of scoring outliers, and standardization.
Program Participation - Determined through departmental review of students using a rubric and standardization.
Some awards are only available to applicants who are enrolled in a particular program or department.
Some awards may include additional criteria.
Bursary Eligibility Requirements
Bursary eligibility includes all of the general criteria listed above.
Applicants must have demonstrated financial need as determined by their receipt of Canadian or US government issued student loans.
Applicants must submit a student aid Notice of Assessment to Student Financial Services with a minimum of $8,500 in aid for the current school year.
Additional information and how to receive your award:
Total award amounts will be divided equally between the two semesters of the next school year.
With few exceptions, all awards are applied for at once with a single application.
Recipients must attend full time studies (minimum of 9 credits) for both semesters (fall and winter) in the following academic year to realize the full value of any award, excluding any PLAR or audit credits.
If a student withdraws below the minimum 60% course load all scholarships will be reversed for that term.
If you have an assessed disability status you may be eligible to receive scholarships at a 40% course load or 6 credits per semester. If you are going to be a graduate you may petition for special circumstances in your final term.
