ILL Frequently Asked Questions (ILL FAQ)
ILL Request Status
How long does it take to get the item I requested?
Burman University Library searches for your ILL item(s) across Canadian academic, public and special libraries. Please allow 1-2 weeks for your interlibrary loan to be received. If you are in need of library items that are needed in less than the given ILL timeframe, please feel free to visit our librarian, Ms. Clark, for reference assistance.
Why was my ILL request cancelled?
When an ILL is cancelled, a staff member will notify you via your cancellation notice. The most common reasons that an ILL request was cancelled are the following:
- Lender unavailability
- Licencing or copyright policies
- Inadequate shipping time provided
Renewing an ILL
Why can't I renew my ILL via my online library account?
Due dates and the number of renewals are assigned by the ILL loaning library. To submit a renewal request, please contact one of our staff members.
ILL Fees
Are there any costs associated with an interlibrary loan?
Interlibrary loans are free of charge. However, there are library costs associated with obtaining materials from other libraries. Please contact us if you no longer require your ILL item or need extra time to pick it up. Failure to pick up your ILL request by the given date will incur a $10 processing and postage fee.
I returned my ILL item late. Will I be charged?
If an ILL item is returned late, a $1/day fine is applied for each late day. If an item is returned damaged or deemed missing, a $150 charge will be applied to your account and then adjusted in accordance with the lending library's policy for damaged or missing items. Please inform us if you would like to renew your ILL items to avoid fines.
