The Burman University Summer Work Program gives new and returning students the opportunity to work on campus during the summer. This opportunity includes a full rent rebate (minimum 30 hours per week) as well as eligibility for the Summer Ministries Scholarship, a value of up to $1000 per school year.

Important things to know:

  • Available to continuing & new full-time Burman students eligible to work on campus during the summer.
  • Maximum hours per day: 8
  • Maximum hours per week: 44
  • Rent cost per day for residences: $22.00
  • Minimum hours for full rent rebate: 30 per week.
  • Cafeteria: Pay as you go. No minimums or meal plans apply.
  • Scholarships on summer earnings that are applied to your Burman account are available through the Summer Ministries program. A 30% match of contributions up to a maximum of $1000.


Eligibility

New Students

  • Must be accepted into Burman University for the upcoming school term starting in September.
  • Must have completed budgeting with the Student Financial Services Office for the upcoming school term starting September

Continuing Students

  • Must have pre-registered for full time attendance in the upcoming school term starting in September.
  • Must have completed financial budgeting for the upcoming school term starting in September.

Graduating/Non-returning Students – Not Eligible

  • The purpose of offering on-campus student employment, whether during summer or the school term, is to assist current students with the cost of attendance.  Consequently, non-returning students are not eligible for this program. 


Hours

  • Maximum of 44 hours per calendar week in daily increments of no more than 8 hours per day.
  • If a student works for more than one departments, the combined hours per day must not exceed 8 hours including any night shifts.
  • A student that works in a department that utilizes a compressed work week (38 hours per week from Monday to Friday) may work in daily increments of no more than 8.5 hours.


Rent

  • The daily rent charge is $22.00.  The Dean calculates the number of days in residence for the month and charges the corresponding rent to your school bill.


Rent Rebate

  • If you average 30 or more hours per week during a May-August, the rent cost for that month will be rebated back to your Burman account the following month. This is a taxable benefit and you will be issued a T4A slip in February of the next year.
  • New student rules and conditions:
    • In addition to general eligibility requirements, a new student must complete the fall semester’s room reservation form and continue to live in residence during the upcoming school term.
    • If a student moves out of residence prior to the end of fall term, all applied rent rebates for the previous summer will be reversed.
  • Continuing students rules and conditions: 
    • In addition to general eligibility requirements, the student must have occupied a Burman dormitory residence throughout the immediate preceding term and continue to live in residence during the upcoming school term.
    • If a student moves out of residence prior to the end of fall term, all applied rent rebates for the previous summer will be reversed.


Cafeteria

  • There are no cafeteria meal plans or minimums during May – August. Meals are purchased individually each time at the cafeteria.


Timecards

  • Accurately completing your timecard and ensuring that it’s turned in to your work supervisor on the specified day is your responsibility.
  • You will be paid once a month, on the tenth. The work hours cutoff date is the last day of the month.
  • Your payment will be for the previous month's work. 
  • Your work supervisor will advise you when the timecard needs to be submitted each month.
  • If your timecard is not submitted on time, you will not receive payment for your hours until the next pay period.
  • We are unable to submit any payroll advances.


Summer Ministries Scholarship

  • All students are eligible for a 30% matching scholarship up to a maximum of $1,000 on net summer wages deposited by August 31. This scholarship applies to the upcoming school year only and the award will be split evenly between each semester. 
  • On your spending plan, please indicate your intention to contribute your net earnings towards the Summer Ministries Scholarship.
